Chivalry in Cannes is a live Twitter-based and blog-based report from Cannes with Chivas, partner of the Cannes Film Festival. Each episode takes you a step deeper into real-life acts of Chivalry in Cannes and the world of film.
Christian Sinicropi is the Chef to the Stars. Leading all prestigious restaurants in the Martinez Hotel, Christian is not only the Executive Chef, he is an artist and his cuisine is the fruit of years of experience in France’s top kitchens, including Alain Ducasse’s. Christian is the only twice-Michelin-starred chef in the city. At the Festival, he is responsible for everything from the Jury’s first official dinner night through to the unbelievable daily schedule of his cuisine: serving 1,000 people a day, including many of the stars attending.
I met Sandie, Bruno’s London-based partner at Chaussignand Lunettes, through one of the brand’s ambassadors, Erik Munro (see in series of pictures to the bottom of this feature). In fact I believe Erik was wearing his Bruno Chaussignand glasses when I met him. Shortly after I had a good chat with Sandie at one of our recent events (see video for her interview), and we had a very exciting talk. Sandie came to the SQUA.RE office for a full insight of her brand’s inspiring range and history.
If anything, Davies Street, located in the midst of my home of Mayfair, London, seems to be the street for innovation, or at least of two very notable ones: the store version of one of our favourite eCommerce websites Couture Lab, and the newly launched BOKKS London retail space. It is nice to see such concepts burgeoning in a street also strong with traditional luxury as this is where Claridge’s side entrance is located, where Berkeley Square and its private clubs lay to the bottom and where the sumptuous store/home of Alfred Dunhill can be found.
“It’s a genius idea.” Karl Lagerfeld
Clearly BOKKS is more than a shop, it is the slick and stylish headquarter of a global luxury gifting service. As I met with CEO Walter Bugno, he shared with me that what I saw was only a stepping stone for the concept store in the making. The next version of the shop will have three private consultation areas for Very Personal Assistants (VPA), a term invented by BOKKS, who are already present to assist buyers in their choices — while Gift Imagineers go away with briefs collected from the customers by the VPAs and invent whole new collections. Whether you think that Chivalry is dead or alive, whether you like it or not, one thing is for sure: women love Chivalry. Chivalry is the bravery to treat them right, it is the sex-appeal in us men, and the self-dedication to our love, passion and excitement for them!
A few months ago, we were very factual about a set of Living with Chivalry values, inspired by a brand we truly love on that matter: Chivas. It is time this Valentine’s Day to put it into action, as you can all benefit from it. Make all women happy, make the women you like happier and the woman you love happiest and they will all give it back to you in ways you could never imagine.
The fantastic and always amusing Italian designer of hotness, Frankie Morello is back again with, as always, a fun and sexy campaign for his Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
During New Year’s eve celebrations not so long ago, I noticed that the bottles of Veuve Clicquot bore a seal that read: By Appointment to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. Purveyors of Champagne. This intrigued me as Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, a brand born in Reims, France and sold as a French product, appeared to be affiliated with the British royal family.
In a year that saw sky-rocketing unemployment, disappearing retirement savings, a deadly flu pandemic and the several untimely and tragic demises of some of our leading icons such as Michael Jackson, Brittany Murphy, Patrick Swayze, Natasha Richardson, David Carradine, Farrah Fawcett, Les Paul and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein – let’s just say that raising a glass this December 31st becomes not just about celebrating the start of the new year but also toasting to the completion of such intense times!!

In my recent trip to London, I’ve discovered many new jewels, as is expected from this city. One of these new jewels speaks directly one of my ultimate passions; dark chocolate… Actually, mouthwatering-gourmet dark chocolate.
I was walking around and shopping for magazines amongst other things in Selfridges, and I see these very simple and chic looking chocolate bars on display around the corner, with names such as Wild, Smoke, Love, Orange, Wine, Chili, Blackberry & Cinnamon, Organic, Ultimate, Mint, Popcorn… (are you salivating yet?!)
Marigot Bay is certainly one of the most fascinating bays in the Carribean and a perfect destination should you be in need of some ‘escapism’ this winter. Located on the Western coast of Saint Lucia, it is surrounded on three sides by steep, emerald-colored hills, was the historical setting of several battles between the French and Royal Navy, and has been described by numerous authors and writers as the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean.
As I hope you had a chance to see in our film, the highlight of the recent Pavilion of Art and Design was certainly the truly avant garde design of Carpenters Workshop Gallery. If not, check it out and I promise you will be compelled by the gallery’s groundbreaking design-art pieces.
For those of us regulars of Chelsea’s vibrant social map of restaurants, bars and clubs, we always appreciate the opening of new venues, especially when these feature fabulous food, an exciting concept, and an all encompassing offering from restaurant, bar and nightclub to a series of private luxury serviced suites.

In one of the most exciting and original editorials of 2009, Steven Meisel teams up with Vogue Italia and bring us something fresh, new and we could all relate to for December, “MeiselPic”. The Twitter style editorial features the most prominent supermodels photographing themselves doing whatever they do best, in high-end designer clothing of course.
Actresses Kate Beckinsale and Zooey Deschanel team up with Absolut Vodka for a creative and alluring photo shoot to promote four new drinks – Absolut Bloody, Absolut Cosmo, Absolut Crush and Absolut Tonic Twist. The campaign’s tagline “every drink is an exceptional experience” features photos from world known photographer Ellen Von Unwerth and will be featured in male-oriented magazines such as Sports Illustrated, GQ, Esquire, Maxim and Details.

One of the most significant films of the year, with an all super star studded cast and already creating noteworthy Oscar buzz and rave reviews, “Nine” is set to please.
London, our city of choice, has always been the ideal melting pot of new trends, global culture and luxury through modernity and tradition, sometimes both at the same time. In this particular case, London reached a new height in watchmaking, as we owe to the excellent English watch magazine QP, the very first SalonQP: a gathering of the top watch brands and watch enthusiasts for the first time in London.
