The sideward gaze, swirls of smoke, the double-breasted jacket with top few buttons undone on impeccably tailored shirts, the white Repetto jazz shoes, the Breitling Navitimer watch, the Van Cleef and Arpels signature cologne and the unfailing stubble — the very name of Serge Gainsbourg conjures up such images of the stylish French icon.
Piaget, the pioneering Swiss watchmaker has recently added to their well-known Limelight collection by introducing Limelight Jazz Party – a mini collection of four luxurious new pieces themed around musical notes and the piano.
The first and most eye-catching piece is the Limelight Exceptional Secret watch, that appears to be a bracelet, but a secret door opens up to reveal a dial that tells time. A black dial and several encrusted diamonds give the appearance of the ebony and ivory colors of piano keys.
London, our city of choice, has always been the ideal melting pot of new trends, global culture and luxury through modernity and tradition, sometimes both at the same time. In this particular case, London reached a new height in watchmaking, as we owe to the excellent English watch magazine QP, the very first SalonQP: a gathering of the top watch brands and watch enthusiasts for the first time in London.

Just as for Formula One, it’s all about the skill of the driver and his team. And there’s no exception to the rule at the recently completed 2009 Series of the Super Trofeo at the highly acclaimed Circuit De Catalunya and in the sunshine of Provence, in France. As explained in a recent post, on top of contributing exciting new dates to the existing racing calendar, the series symbolises a fascinating alliance between two legendary brands: Lamborghini and Blancpain.
The series began with a quick start where its corporate sponsor, Blancain and the brand’s President and CEO, Marc A. Hayek, became quick on the mark on the race track to make him win third place in round two of the first race along side with his co-driver and Le Mans Champion and Dutchman, Peter Knox. This Sunday marked the 25th anniversary of one of the most talked about events of the English social calendar: the Cartier International Polo at the renown Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park.
With a guest count of nearly 30,000, the list is well managed with a private tent reserved to the friends of Cartier. “It’s our 25th anniversary, so we want to make it even more special,” says Arnaud Bamberger, managing director of Cartier UK. Guests at this year’s Cartier International Polo included Prince Charles, Anna Friel, Neve Campbell, Amber Le Bon and many others.
England was defeated 12-5 by Argentina, the visiting team lead by world leading polo player Adolfa Cambiaso.
Jaeger-LeCoultre strongly believes in the connection between Film and Watches, defining them as the two worlds where Movement is an art, History is wealth and Time is energy. Needless to say, the two worlds also share yet another great quality: their Glamour.
It is therefore of no surprise that Jaeger-LeCoultre has chosen to celebrate the 80th anniversary of its most prestigious ‘Haute Joaillerie’ model, the Calibre 101, at landmark film events throughout the year.
The celebration has started at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, on the wrist of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ambassador Diane Kruger, accompanied by the entire cast of Quentin Tarantino’s new movie.
For the third year running, the fine Swiss watchmaking manufacturer Jaeger-LeCoultre held a charity polo game for nearly 300 guests. The UK Brand Director, Guillain Maspetiol, welcomed international and local celebrities at the Ham Polo Club in Richmond. The event featured two exhibition games with the world’s best polo players and an auction for two charity organisations “Ideas del Sur” and “Maggie’s Centres”.

Held in Geneva, the home of Fawaz Gruosi and De Grisogono’s head office, we are privately shown through Gruosi’s home and stunning grounds, where he creates ideas for designs, gaining inspiration from music, art and nature. He later demonstrates how his inspirations are turned into show-stopping jewels at the company’s atelier; pieces which have adorned the most A-list and glamorous names.
De Grisogono now has 16 stores across the globe, with more than one opening per year since Fawaz Gruosi launched the influential company in 1992, injecting new life into the traditional designer jewellery world. Gruosi’s designs are fuelled by his passion and creativity that challenges industry standards. His jewellery incorporates materials such as natural black diamonds, his ‘lucky colour’. Gruosi introduced De Grisogono watches 8 years ago, with the current collection including a pendant watch, encompassing his combined fervour for both watches and jewellery.

It was held at the OMEGA Pavilion on the Olympic Green in Beijing.
Another week, another launch party, London keeps its busy social wheels turning at Evisu’s launch of their watch collection; Evisuisse (what’s a watch without the Swiss content).
Organised by party professionals, Elite Events, the Evisu launch entertained a host of A-list names including it’s watch ambassador Kelly Rowland. Guests were entertained at the denim giant’s Savile Row store, where their Japanese theme was in full force including models covered in gold wielding bamboo ’samurai’ swords and serving eye-popping amounts of sushi.
The watches, inspired by vintage military and diving watches, are priced from £200 – £800, are oversize but subtle at the same time… a definite favourite for our recent girl-in-town Kelly.
