The youthful appeal of the new Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2010 campaign is exuberant, playful and quite sexy. Starring Lindsey Wixson, Siri Tollerod, Ginta Lapina and Daphne Groeneveld, the fantastic campaign is shot by the fantastic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. The campaign video is prersumeably shot by Madonna herself, after interrupting the campaign shoot, under the guidance of Mert & Marcus, using the amazing remix of “Generations Of Love” by Phunk Investigation vs. Boy George as the soundtrack.
The Prada men and women get together for a great night out in the 60s. The campaign, is sexy, moody and photographed by Steven Meisel. While supermodel Angela Lindvall stole the show, the campaign also stars Daria Strokous, Valerija Kelava, Miranda Kerr in fabulous beehive hairdos, and Clément Chabernaud, Kim Dall’Armi, Mark Cox and Mathias Bergh as the male leads. The campaign is accompanied by a short film with a fanatsic sultry rendition of “Fever”, performed by Katey Judd (and Angela Lindvall does a great job looking gorgeous and lip-synching).
I had the pleasure to interview musician Sophie Delila. She is a multi-talented vocalist, producer, pianist, guitarist and writer who is exploding onto the scene in Europe. Her brilliant musical talent showcases an edgy pop sound with a jivey blues flavor.
Jessika Zen is an up and coming artist exploding onto the music scene with electrifying hypnotic techno vibes. I had the pleasure of speaking with Jessika about her music and her life as an artist.

James Johanson: Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you began as a musician.
Jessika Zen: I was born in Bandung, Indonesia and moved to Sydney, Australia at the age of 5. I learnt classical piano at the age of five and attended Berklee College of Music on a performance scholarship. Growing up, I was rather an inspired & curious contrarian who was always interested in obscure art and was sort of an odd child. There really wasn’t anything like the indie-pop movement and less individualism. Growing up in Australia we would just get fed American and UK pop. So, my influences basically come from burying myself in my dad’s record collection since he listened to world music, film scores, jazz and had a large collection of culturally deep, “high-concept” films, foreign films, and design/art books. I was the only kid at school listening to Brazilian, Latin, and classical music. Read the rest of this entry »
Viktor & Rolf outdid themselves with a great collection of casual tailored coolness for the Spring/Summer 2011 man. The collection is relaxed yet sharp, beautiful and sophisticated yet casually elegant, with monochromatic hues of blue and neutral colors, and a subtle playfulness in jersey and satin. “We thought of the Forties film star very dressed up, but on the beach. A very unconstructed, relaxed way of formal dressing,” explained Viktor Horsting of the great collection.
Celebrating twenty years of menswear, Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana created an exact, yet modern look to commemorate their south Italian roots. A relaxed look, loose proportions, yet very polished and masculine suiting, as the usual Dolce&Gabbana man is.
The 2010 World Cup kicked off last week in South Africa. The championships exacts an international spirit of competition and good will as the world comes together for the largest sporting event in the world. The icon of all icons, the Queen of Pop, the number one best selling female artist of all time, Madonna grace the May cover of Interview magazine (for the seventh time) with all her Pop Royalty extravagance and raw powerful sexual assault that only she can pull off. The fantastic editorial is photographed by dual talents of Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, and accompanied with a conversation by one of the most incredible movie directors of our time, Gus van Sant.
The lead singer of the Iceland based band Sigur Rós, Jón Thor Birgisson, known to the world simply as Jonsi, began his solo tour recently featuring track off of his new album “Go“. The album consists of nine tracks with a sound slightly different than the original music of Sigur Rós, yet still possesses the euphoric dream-like expression common in their other works. In an interview, Jonsi describes how the album was created and the basis of its inspiration.
The first time I encountered a Youssef Nabil photograph a few years back, it was that beautiful picture of “Natcha Atlas Fume le Naguilé (2000)”. I remember how captivating it was, it reminded of all those Egyptian films of the golden age that I grew up watching, particularly those by Samia Gamal and Farid Al-Atrash. I knew then I was in love with the work of Youssef Nabil.
Hipster alternative bands that come onto the scene and disappear all of a sudden are a dime-a-dozen. But, when a formidable indie band surfaces it makes some loud waves. This is the case with Beach House. An alt-pop duo consisting of French-born Victoria Legran, who is the niece of both filmmaker Michel Legrand and singer Christiane Legrand, and Alex Scully from Baltimore, Maryland.
Marion Cotillard, the face of Lady Dior, returns this season as Lady Rouge. While the first campaign last year (as featured on SQUA.RE) included a Lady Noire film, the second campaign features a song by Lady Rouge, “The Eyes of Mars,” a tune performed with Scottish rock band, Franz Ferdinand.

Beginning every year, there is a certain anticipation built around new artists in the industry. This year, the holder of the much-coveted attention is Ellie Goulding. The singer rose from MySpace fame to blog acclaim and won BBC Sound of 2010 poll.
