Creative director, Thomas Maier visited a cliché idea of power women for the Bottega Vaneta Fall/Winter 2010 collection, but being utterly brilliant, Thomas Maier took that cliché and turned it into a refreshing concept and a collection of chapters. It started with deceivingly opening pieces of leather pantsuits, which might lead you to think it’s going to be a collection of leather-everything, then collection moves to great tailoring and fabulous jersey dresses before pink and orange candy colored pieces that encompass the very elegance of Bottega Veneta.

Miuccia Prada, always the leader of the fashion followers and beyond, revealed a collection of absolute femininity and über-chicness that is absolutely reminiscent of Prada in the 90s, while giving ode to New York in the 50s. “It’s normal clothes. Classics. Revising the things I did in the nineties” said Miuccia Prada of her collection, which is filled with cashmere dresses and skirts, double-collared jackets and coats, patent leather pieces, heavy yet sexy knitwear with big belts, exquisitely embroidered black numbers, pointy shoes and long tweed socks topped with very elegant beehive hairdos… Another excellent Prada collection.

For Fall/Winter 2010, Creative Director of Burberry, Christopher Bailey presented the fashion posse of the world one major dilemma: which fabulous variation of the aviator jacket and accompanying looks do you want? I mean, they are all beautiful, every single jacket, coat, trench and parka is a fabulous investment piece that you will enjoy for years and years. Another great presentation of masculine outerwear mixed with lace and sheer femininity, from a celebrated designer and fashion house that basically know what they are doing, and they do it very well (and I’m not just talking about those killer python knee-high boots).

Designer Michael Herz conveys what I believe to be the epitome of English elegance, bringing back the heritage of the Aquascutum brand for Fall/Winter 2010, without having any fear of mixing his own views and beliefs in the process. It is truly elegant. Flowing with long skirts and dresses, chic slim silhouettes sophisticatedly modern outerwear, both in black and beautiful camel (all in absolute trend for the Fall/Winter 2010). Michael Herz provided that he has plenty to offer, and this collection proved that we would love to see more.

21st Century imagery blurs the boundaries between what is art and what is graphics. Art is a word that summarizes quality of communication. Some of the slickest and most impactful contemporary imagery is created by the advertising world – after all, they have the budget for it. Just because an image is in a magazine and used for a commercial purpose doesn’t make it not able to be art – IF it has a high level of communication.

Trying to analyze the designs or inspiration of a Rodarte collection, is as complicated as trying to analyze a David Lynch film, and I mean that in the best possible way. It is also difficult to describe a Rodarte outfit, but the words beautiful and fantastical often come to mind. For the Fall/Winter 2010 collection, the Mulleavy sisters decided to go to a lighter mind trip than their previous collection. But it is same to keep in mind the Rodarte collections are not for everyday wear, and most certainly not for anyone lacking imagination.

It’s been only three years, and Jordanian Born-Canadian designer, Rad Hourani has a devoted unisex cult following. “It’s always a continuation from the last season; I never start a new inspiration board” said Hourani, which pretty much sums the collectin. A silhouette of strictly black, the precise laser cuts and clean lines in traditional Hourani black leather and knits, also full of zippers, looks absolutely neat and modern goth. This season he experimented with neoprene, sequins and patent leather, adding a subtle evolution and refreshing element from last year’s success. Rad Hourani’s inspiration clearly comes from masters of the same genre, Rick Owens and Helmut Lang.
