“I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream.”

And so the artist did paint capturing his dreams, thoughts, hopes, and melancholies onto the canvas. But what many are not aware of is that behind the beauty of Van Gogh’s landscapes, portraits and still-lives, the artist deeply examined the emotional and intellectual context of his art through the written word.

Definitely an unusual direction from the safe elegance associated with the Bottega Venetta man. Creative Director Thomas Maier, decided to be daring this season, and offered it along side another form of chic, the 1950s attitude-full Teddy Boy look. It’s all about string ties, thick-soled shoes and rolled-up trouser cuffs, double-breasted wool blazers and over-gelled hair.

For the Fall/Winter 2010 season, the Versace man will be geared and ready in a futuristic uniform of leather pants and biker jackets to take on the world. The collection (along with the runway), inspired by the cult 80s film “Tron, the Versace Sci-Fi effect is fantastically infused with the usual rock-glam vibe that is typical of the legendary Italian house. The palette is what is expected; sexy black and silver fused into blue, purple and gray, with the occasional laser beams prints.

During New Year’s eve celebrations not so long ago, I noticed that the bottles of Veuve Clicquot bore a seal that read: By Appointment to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. Purveyors of Champagne. This intrigued me as Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, a brand born in Reims, France and sold as a French product, appeared to be affiliated with the British royal family.

A favorite of mine, Dries van Noten injected a much needed dose of colour (some regular Fall colours, some are not) for his men’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection. Mixing and matching fabrics and elegant yet loud prints, with casual tailored jackets (on trend of Fall/Winter 2010), sweats-styled cuffed trousers, charcoal blazers with navy sleeves. It all really makes sense once put together, and most of all, I appreciate the contrasting element in colours and prints.

Kris van Assche proved for the Fall/Winter 2010 season that he has already owned the new Dior Homme, and he’s here to stay. The silhouette is nothing like what we (and you) are used to, but it is still interesting, luxurious, minimalistic and progressive. It is van Ascche religious belief (along with his fellow Belgian designers) that black is the new black. This collection, simply as GQ puts it: “It’s still all very cutting-edge—just no longer cut so close”.

This collection of print galore by the brilliant Alexander McQueen is sartorially puzzling. The Savile Row trained British legend is at his unabashed self in this collection of random yet rhythmic prints and boxy cuts of suits, coats face masks and matching shoes.

From a designer that knows no boundaries, and brings new meaning to the word daring, Dame Vivienne Westwood pays tribute to the homeless for her men’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection. Taking everything available and putting it on, this collection demonstrates many references, basically put on whatever you can find, compromise where possible, mix and mismatch; and that’s how you make a statement.

Charbel Zeidan, also known as Cherry (or Cherry Ontherocks) is a vastly talented artist. He’s a fashion designer, illustrator and photographer, working for one of the most successful couture houses right now, Cherry is head designer and in-house photographer at Elie Saab. After studying Interior Architecture in the Fine Arts section at the Lebanese University in Beirut, Cherry went on to release his demons, or as would put it, his “naive, childish yet deep and sophisticated” demons.

Marc Jacobs and Paul Helbers opted for a safe yet elegant all the way Louis Vuitton men collection for the Fall/Winter 2010 collection. So yes, it is not a daring collection for the French house, but sheer elegance was infused into leather patches on jackets, elasticized cuffs to tweed pants and rubber soled military boots, all displayed in a palette of black, gray, and espresso (in trend for Fall/Winter 2010).
