After a “battle” with winter this season, Spring overcomes… (Not yet, but keep hoping!!! Unless you love winter like me!).
Recently I had the pleasure of speaking with Amber Sainsbury, founder of Dramatic Need, a UK based charity that brings creative arts education to underprivileged children. Amber is a Hollywood actress who has been in movies such as 30 Days of Night, The Ferryman, and has been in television programs such as Hex and The Poseidon Adventure.
The Official Patron of Dramatic Need is Her Excellency Dr Lindiwe Mabuza, South African High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The Board of Trustees includes Oscar-winning film director Danny Boyle, famous for his work with Slumdog Millionare, and South African-born actor Sir Antony Sher. Dramatic Need’s global ambassadors are the American actor Josh Hartnett and the Danish photographer and model Helena Christensen.
In my recent trip to London, I’ve discovered many new jewels, as is expected from this city. One of these new jewels speaks directly one of my ultimate passions; dark chocolate… Actually, mouthwatering-gourmet dark chocolate.
I was walking around and shopping for magazines amongst other things in Selfridges, and I see these very simple and chic looking chocolate bars on display around the corner, with names such as Wild, Smoke, Love, Orange, Wine, Chili, Blackberry & Cinnamon, Organic, Ultimate, Mint, Popcorn… (are you salivating yet?!)
Commemorating the sexy eternal ruggedness of leather, Dazed & Confused Japan magazine put out an ode to the rebel in all of us, a consistent edgy editorial featuring of some of the best leather pieces for men this season.
On December 20, after failed attempts to resuscitate her, actress Brittany Murphy was pronounced dead on arrival at the Medical Center in Los Angeles. At only 32, the world renowned actress had suffered cardiac arrest.

The impeccably handsome British lad and talented actor, Jude Law got more intense with Dior Homme recently, advocating “the essence of a modern man”… After being the successful face of Dior Homme Sport, the collaboration extends with Dior Homme “Intense” perfume.
Martin Margiela (the elusive designer who recently retired after over 20 years, but his team is continuing his legacy) is the least likely designer to collaborate with a very well known musician, but if it was going to happen, lead singer of R.E.M Michael Stipe would be the perfect person.
“Michael Stipe has used various means of expression of his creativity. A major part of his work is a reflection on the obsolete technology of modern times how fast it evolves, devices that one were pioneering and innovative quickly becoming outmoded and archaic. The microcassette he has created for Maison Martin Margiela is in the continuity of this work, and marks his first foray in working with sterling silver”
In 2009 the fashion industry was hit very hard by the dreaded economic crisis, many houses closed. But there has been some fantastic highlights, the light at the end of a dark tunnel, these highlights include the emergence of young and fresh talents, who used 2009 to solidify their presence. Names like Alexander Wang and Gareth Pugh come to mind, but this article is about Rad Hourani, whose equally deserving of the same amount of praise for sticking to his genuine artistic integrity.
Mixing the highest end of fashion, couture, with grunge and a gorgeously filthy background is all the rage in fashion editorials (even mixing it with glam rock). While this is not a new concept at all, photographer Rafael Stahelin and stylist Ye Young Kim manage to give us great original spin on the idea in the latest Vogue Korea. Starring supermodel Karlie Kloss, the editorial is justifiably titled “Trash Couture”.
In an industry where there are as many models as there are many fashion designers, some relevant, some are fake relevant and some are evermore relevant; Polish supermodel Anja Rubik’s beauty and foremost versatility stands out, always.
Being part of the original avant-garde fashion designers from Belgium, dubbed the “Antwerp Six” (Walter van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries van Noten, Dirk van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee), Ann Demeulemeester stood out as the romantically gothic of them all, never has mixing gothic and modern with soft silhouettes has looked and beautiful.
Marigot Bay is certainly one of the most fascinating bays in the Carribean and a perfect destination should you be in need of some ‘escapism’ this winter. Located on the Western coast of Saint Lucia, it is surrounded on three sides by steep, emerald-colored hills, was the historical setting of several battles between the French and Royal Navy, and has been described by numerous authors and writers as the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean.
