The always amusing photographer Steven Klein, shot the hedonistically beautiful Lara Stone for a twisted yet gorgeous editorial in Vogue Paris, October 2009 issue, paying close attention to Stone’s statuesque figure.

SQUA.RE Link: Vogue Paris

A model that stands out from the rest, her beautiful curves, which remind me of those voluptuous women in classic paintings by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, and her gap teeth, are a definite sign of uniqueness in the fashion universe. She walked the runways of Prada, Dolce&Gabbana, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci (who instrumentally put her on the map). She starred in campaigns for Miu Miu, Dsquared2, Jean-Paul Gaultier and French swimwear brand Eres, and appreared on the cover of W magazine’s August 2009 issue. She’s literally appearing in countless editorials all over the fashion world, from V to Vogue. And I am here to tell you, she is here to stay! Read the rest of this entry »

There’s no doubt that Marc Jacobs and the 80s have a beautiful, eternal love affair that can never be broken or replaced. But because of Marc Jacobs’ brilliance and his ability to be in-tune with the world around him, his complete and utter originality in finding true inspirations from what and who he admires, his Spring/Summer 2010 was a refreshing, literally beautiful collection, and a completely different one from what you would expect.

SQUA.RE Link: Marc Jacobs

A Broadway production; the collection featured romantic yet sporty ruffles, beautiful prints, sequins and gorgeous soft colors; a complete contrast from his previous collection (even the dreaded “fanny pack” made an appearance, and he made it look so cool!) adding to the already established trend for next Spring/Summer, the sporty-chic look. For any regulars of London’s exclusive nightclubs, Aura, the club on St James Street,  has been a key spot over the past eight years. While over time, more and more inviting options have presented themselves, for example the new clubs on the map Whiskey Mist and Jalouse, or the well established Cuckoo and Maddox, not to mention the timeless classics which are Annabel’s and Tramp, Aura has managed to create for itself not a new name but better than that: a new aura.

Featuring its more than desirable location on St James’s Street, the new Aura, owned and ran by a strong, restructured and truly focussed team, is more than just a club, it also features its own restaurant and bar. Read the rest of this entry »

There is no doubt that Miuccia Prada is one of the most intellectual designers of our time. Often her collections offer more for thought than just frivolous fashion, with her signature hard-edged minimalist approach that, because she is quite open minded isn’t afraid of going the opposite direction. And the Spring/Summer 2010 collection was just that.

SQUA.RE Link: Prada

The fashion show displayed projections of fading doorways, chandeliers and beaches, “[It’s] between reality and fantasy… How life is today. High and low, palazzos, and the popular. I really liked it” said Prada. Indeed her messages were clear throughout the collection, mixing the reality of her designs with crystals from chandeliers covering tops, shoes and handbags, and colorful vintage beach prints from 50s postcards on tops, dresses and shorts with dark grey duchess satin and nylon jackets, coats, bermudas and shorts. Donatella Versace acknowledged that Tim Burton’s highly anticipated film adaptation of the classic “Alice in Wonderland” (we certainly can’t wait to see it next March!) was her inspiration for this collection, combining it with classic Versace designs and fun. “I loved the idea of that fantasyland” said Versace.

SQUA.RE Link: Versace

The inspiration can be seen in the various contrasting and alluring prints that would hypnotize you into the Rabbit Hole. Furthermore, the influence can also be seen in the charming rabbit (The White Rabbit) prints on plastic see-through skirts (Through The Looking Glass). Combining the amusement of Wonderland with Versace’s talent for sexy short skirts, tight-fitting tops, prints extravaganza and gorgeous killer-very-high heels deemed to be a great combination, resulting is an exceptionally fun collection infused with a strong whiff of imaginative youthful play (perhaps from the singing flowers!?). Purple magazine is not stranger to controversies and pushing buttons, but this editorial is beyond notorious.

SQUA.RE Link: Purple

Supermodel Baptiste Giabiconi poses for Karl Lagerfeld in hardly anything than killer high heels, super tight pants, and in one incident, only a denim jacket. The story behind this editorial is that Purple magazine editor Oliver Zahm asked Lagerfeld to shoot a tribute for late legendary photographer, Helmut Newton. But Lagerfeld wanted to use a man instead of a woman, so Zahm gladly replied “Okay, you shoot a man, but as a Helmut Newton woman!“. And so, Lagerfeld chose (as always) Baptiste Giabiconi, dressing the model sensation in high heels and clothes (hardly!) by Chanel, Tom Ford, Maison Martin Margiela, Givenchy, Dior Homme and Kris van Assche. Fashion designer, Christopher Bailey did not disappoint at all, re-inventing the signature trench coat in various fun and glamorous ways, as well as the military-influenced coats and the much welcomed trench dresses, all the while paying much attention to the trend of power shoulders. Bailey equally gave much needed attention below the waist, with draped tulle skirts looked like swirls of icing on delicious cupcakes on models swaggering in soft feminine pumps.
